Nokia E6 Versus BlackBerry Bold: the business touch

The Nokia E6 is the latest addition to Nokia’s E Series of business smartphones, but it’s there to do far more than just make up the numbers. So how does the first touchscreen QWERTY smartphone line up against the BlackBerry Bold 9700, an established business favourite? Let’s take a closer look.
No smartphone brand is more synonymous with business than BlackBerry, and the BlackBerry Bold 9700 has proved a popular choice with enterprise users. In the Nokia E6, however, we reckon it has more than met its match, and here’s why…

Business style

The Nokia E6 strikes the perfect balance between design elegance and functional simplicity. It’s slightly heavier than its BlackBerry rival, and slightly taller too, but its narrower and thinner profile makes it more pocket-friendly than the Bold 9700, and that slightly heavier weight is down to its stainless steel chassis – a compromise we’re more than happy to accept.

A dazzling display

It’s not just touch-sensitivity that sets the Nokia E6′s screen apart from its BlackBerry counterpart. The Gorilla glass display affords satisfying build quality, but it’s the impressive 640 x 480 resolution that really impresses. Over the 2.4-inch screen size that equates to an incredible 326 pixels per inch, meaning the kind of pin-sharp quality the Bold simply can’t match.

The right touch

BlackBerry has told us a touchscreen version of the Bold will be coming later this year, but Nokia has beaten it to the punch with the Nokia E6. The convenience and versatility of the touchscreen interface gives the Nokia E6 a crucial edge that you only appreciate once you experience it in action.

All about Anna

The Nokia E6 is brand new, and so is its operating system. The Anna update to Symbian^3 gives the popular OS a welcome lick of paint, and the Touch and Type-style interface helps you get the most from it. Both of these enterprise-focused smartphones come with come with all the important business essentials pre-loaded, but accessing them with a single tap from Symbian^3′s multiple homescreens gives the Nokia E6 a massive edge.

Where’s the storage?

Sign up for a BlackBerry Bold 9700 and you get a meagre 256MB of on-board storage, meaning you’ll be relying on memory card storage practically from day one. No such problem with the Nokia E6: a generous 8GB on board should keep you going for a good while.

More than just business

The Nokia E6 is a capable business all-rounder, but it’s happy being more than that too. You get a high-quality 8-megapixel camera with dual LED flash and 720p video shooting abilities, and that high-quality touch-sensitive display is great for a bit of gaming goodness between business meetings.
