Council rejects company for sewers broadband network contract

The Brisbane City Council has scrapped plans to contract a UK company to build a superfast broadband network in the city's sewers.
The Council was negotiating with the company, i3, to deliver a service for a 500,000 homes over the next four years.
It would have given residents access to super fast internet before the National Broadband Network (NBN) was completed.
But Lord Mayor Campbell Newman says the council was not happy with i3's deal.
"We have been talking to the i3 group in the UK about facilitating that this year," he said.
"Unfortunately I have to say that in council I have called a halt to those discussions because we have been unhappy with the progress of negotiations with the i3 group.
"We have other people who want to put offerings on the table to make this happen and we will now commence discussions to make this happen with them.
"We have been concerned that i3 haven't delivered the information and material we required to properly assess whether we should sign a contract with them.
"We want to protect the interests of the city.
"We are not going to proceed but we do want to proceed with other firms who have equally exciting offerings who believe they can make this happen."
