STEP 1: Run the latest iTunes 10.1.2 software. Put you device in the DFU mode. For this you have to connect your iDevice with your computer and press the Home and power button for almost 10 seconds. After this release the power button and keep on holding the home button until it gets into DFU mode.

STEP 2: Close the iTunes software. Download iREB RC3 Windows and launch the application. Select the type of your device. It will show you a colored display on your iDevice. Now start iTunes software again. Press and keep on holding the Shift button and click Restore button in the iTunes. After pressing Restore, release the Shift button and select the custom .IPSW firmware file to restore it. iTunes will restore your device to iOS custom firmware 4.2.1 and will bypass any errors during the process.
