Microsoft’s over-energetic CEO Steve Ballmer took stage at the 2011 MWC today, to give details of the upcoming Windows Phone 7 updates and the future of the platform.

Firstly, it’s been confirmed that Nokia will release its Windows Phone 7 smartphone by the end of 2011, and the first software update
- – that adds support for CDMA radios, copy & paste, and some performance improvements – - hits devices in early March.
Future updates (later this year) will add support for third-party multi-tasking apps and games, Twitter integration, cloud-based office docs via SkyDrive, Internet Explorer 9 Mobile (mobile version of the browser) and Xbox Live Kinect companion (yes, control-free gaming with Windows Phone).
Microsoft takes the idea of multi-tasking from WebOS (likely) – - apps stacked together like cards to switch between, that is. The company said that it disabled multitasking for third-party apps due to battery life issues.
The Windows Phone 7 Marketplace (a.k.a Windows Marketplace for Mobile) now has more than 8000 apps and 28,000 registered developers.
