BEIJING,  Feb. 24 (Xinhuanet) -- South Korea's Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. on  Thursday launched an ultra-slim notebook,dubbed as Notebook 9 Series,  according to media reports. 
The 13.3-inch-screen notebook computer, which runs on Intel's core processor, weighs 1.31 kg and is 16.3 millimeter thick. 
Samsung  said its new laptop would cost 2,218 U.S. dollars in South Korea and  would launch globally launched from next month in the Americas and  Europe.
Samsung's  launch of its new laptop is seen as the company's latest move to  compete with Apple's ultra-thin MacBook Air, introduced ilast October. 
Samsung  said on Thursday that it wanted to become the global No.6 player in the  mobile PC market this year from last year's seventh place.
Propelled  by strong sales of its iPad tablet, Apple shipped more than 10 million  notebook and tablet computers last quarter for a 17 percent market  share, recing Hewlett-Packard Co as the world's top mobile PC maker.
