Six of the best mobile must-haves

Six of the best mobile must-haves
Six of the best gadgets and gizmos on a theme. This week: Six of the best mobiles from the annual Mobile World Congress.
By Peter Jenkinson.
The must-attend event for mobile lovers took place this week in Barcelona.
The industry's movers and shakers headed to the city for the annual Mobile World Congress - revealing the phones with which you'll be wowing your friends in the coming months.
New handsets were displayed and the latest technologies discussed, with many expert forums debating what was hot and what was not into the night.
We spent three days on our feet to bring you this round-up of the hottest technology the show had to offer - much of which will be available over the coming months.
Touch Free - Jabra Stone 2 - £99 from www.mobilefun.co.uk After redefining the look of a Bluetooth earpiece last year, the Jabra boffins have brought us a hands-free unit that is totally touch-free. The new voice-control system inside not only allows you to make calls, but the earpiece will tell you who is calling and then you can decide to answer or ignore them. The stylish-looking leather finish is the icing on the cake - meaning it also measures up when it comes to looks.
Rumour Monger - Sony Ericsson Xperia Play - from free on contract at www.carphonewarehouse.com Sony Ericsson has finally announced a PlayStation phone after years of speculation over such a move. Featuring a four-inch touchscreen, a slide-out keyboard, the iconic gaming buttons and the left/right trigger keys, this promises to offer an involved gaming experience. The handset runs on the Android operating system and is sure to prompt a new wave of game releases on this platform.
Another Dimension - LG Optimus 3D - from free on contract at www.carphonewarehouse.com This will be the first 3D-capable handset in the UK upon its arrival at the end of March and demand is likely to be high among those who enjoy having early adopter status. You won't need glasses to enjoy the 3D imagery either, as just a quick flick of the dedicated 3D button brings everything on-screen to life. The Optimus 3D also has two cameras on the back so you can capture 3D videos or pictures - it has certainly been the cause of a few dropped jaws.
Big Boast - HTC Incredible S - from free on contract at www.carphonewarehouse.com The people whose job it is to name HTC handsets must have some fun. For as well as releasing the Salsa and ChaCha handsets, there's this one - which has quite a bit to live up to, as it goes. A slightly alternative matt-black finish sets it apart from the crowd in the style department. But this baby isn't just a pretty face, as its blisteringly quick processor means it can easily handle multiple applications on its super-bright screen.
Super Screen - Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 - £500 from www.clove.co.uk The South Korean outfit launched its first tablet device with a seven-inch screen last year and has now decided to go for a screen size that matches that of the iPad. This Android device has a superb screen display and dual surround-sound speakers - offering the ultimate in on-the-go entertainment. The powerful 1GHz processor and the latest Honeycomb OS all work together to produce a seamless surfing experience that should ruffle the feathers of a few competitors.
Old School - 80s iPhone case - £12.99 from www.firebox.com With more and more functions being crammed into smaller mobile devices, this gadget caught our eye. It pays tribute to the days of red braces and yuppies and the sort of mobiles they were often seen with. This case protects your iPhone and gives you instant yuppie status. And if you fancy donning a pinstripe suit and pretending you're a stockbroker in the 1980s, then this is the perfect accessory with which to do it.
:: Note to editors: Products have just been unveiled at an industry show and will be available over the coming months from the listed retailers.
