March 1 – China Unicom (600050, 0762.HK) released the details of its upcoming WoPhone one year after China Mobile’s (0941.HK) OPhone, reports 21cbh.com. The first batch of WoPhones, which were jointly manufactured with seven producers including K-Touch and Samsung, is slated to hit the shelves at the end of March.
The WoPhone uses a Linux-based proprietary operating system developed by China Unicom in 2008. The operator expects to sell one million WoPhones in 2011, said sales director Yu Yingtao.
The WoPhone will reportedly sell for a base price of less than 2,500 yuan.
