India can be Samsung’s biggest market

 
 Samsung, the world’s second-largest handset maker after Nokia is now hoping that India is all set to become their biggest market for mobile phones by 2015. In India, the Korean firm is already in the number two position. Hyunchul Ryu, Samsung’s vice-president, sales & marketing, mobile communication business, South West Asia that Samsung aims to considerably scale up its manufacturing facility in India in the near future.

He says that they lost the number two position in India in the cellphone space in 2006. But in 2009, the company made a few changes and revived its position in the market to have steadily increased it since then. The company, he added is putting a lot of local focus into India as it is confident that it can become its largest market in the world. “We have a manufacturing facility in Noida that produces about a million handsets every month. We are planning to scale this up considerably, but a final decision on this and investments has not been taken.” he said.

“Three years ago, India accounted for less than 5% of Samsung's handset sales, but it is almost 10% now. In revenue terms, India accounts for 8% of our handset sales. Since 2010, India is the third-largest market for Samsung's handset business after the USA and China.” he added.
