Network World apologizes to Samsung over false keylogger accusation Read more: Network World apologizes to Samsung over false keylogger accusation

Network World columnist Mich Kabay has come forward with an apology after erroneously accusing Samsung of installing keylogger software on the laptop the company sells. I wrote about the entire debacle in an article last week titled "Red faces all around over the Samsung keylogger that wasn't."In a new article posted on Monday, Kabay admitted that he should have verified the results with the maker of the security software that detected the StarLogger keylogger, or at least check the folder identified to contain the malware.
I have already shared my thoughts on this matter in last week's commentary titled "Lessons learned from the Samsung malware that wasn't," and will not rehash them here. What was interesting were comments posted by readers on FierceCIO:TechWatch, which took a difference stance on the matter. For example, reader "JT" was critical of how so many "red flags" were completely missed, while "sec_test" commended Network World and the authors for their daring in reporting what could have been an actual breach of trust by Samsung. Then again, I suppose "Paul S" summed it up best when he wrote "Be alert, we need more alerts."
