Nokia Releases Ovi Maps 3.07 Beta

Interested in doing a little beta testing on your Symbian smartphone? Nokia's just released the beta version of Ovi Maps 3.07, adding a handful of new features to the popular app.

Since the release of Ovi Maps 3.06, Nokia's focused on UI changes that may not add a great deal of new functionality, but improve how you access data with the app and hopefully make it more natural and easy to use. One part that has received a notable overhaul is the appearance of place pages; the redesign includes reviews from numerous online sources, as well as user-submitted content, and access to an image gallery of location photos.

Map controls have been tweaked, letting you change view in drive mode with a tap, so you can take a peek at upcoming turns in advance. Nokia's big about the offline capabilities of Ovi Maps, like how it can download maps in advance so you're not stuck with expensive data charges when far from home. It's built on that with this release, letting the predictive search function store queries for later use offline. For search terms you use over and over, there's now a favorites tab to store them.

Nokia rounds things out with weather forecasts in the guide, and one-touch access to app functions from your phone's home screen. The beta of Ovi Maps 3.07 is available in Nokia Beta Labs to registered users.
